Are you looking for an exciting new opportunity to grow your skills and be part of a dynamic team? We’re seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to join us in our Wimbledon Village Shop.

The role of Assistant Shop Manager is to deputise and support the Shop Manager in maximising shop profit by achieving budgeted income, controlling shop expenditure in line with budget and retaining a motivated team of Retail Assistants and Volunteers.

Purpose of role:
  • To deputise and be accountable for all management duties as and when required in the absence of the manager – covering periods of absence.
  • To assist with maximising shop income and Gift Aid.
  • To actively promote the sale of ancillary products relating to the Hospice – lottery/scratch cards etc.
  • To assist the manager in ensuring merchandise is displayed in an attractive manner and to sales statistics.
  • To help to meet or exceed sales targets.
  • To ensure that the premises are welcoming, kept clean and tidy.
  • To generate sufficient stock to meet sales requirements.
  • To assist with stock rotation on a regular basis and cull unsold donations, including disposal of items to St Raphael's Hospice certified contractors.
  • To assist the Manager with the completion of KPIs as required.
  • To supervise, train colleagues (where applicable) and maintain adequate staffing/volunteer levels to open the shop as advertised.
  • To assist with the recruitment, induction, training, motivation and engagement of volunteers ensuring that the role matches their specific skill set.
  • To assist with keeping an up-to-date record of volunteers, contact details and pass forward as required.
  • Share shops figures and performance with volunteer team.
  • To assist with the administration of the shop and timely return of information – hard copy or online as required.
  • Ensure that takings are kept secure and banked as per retail policy.
  • Have an awareness of local competitors and share information with shop manager.
  • Attend team meetings as required.
  • To cover other shops, from time to time, across the St Raphael’s Hospice chain as required.
  • To act as the secondary key holder and to respond appropriately to any emergencies or in the absence of the manager.
  • Ensure that St Raphael’s Hospice and retail policies are always adhered to.
