St. Peter’s School, Cambridge is seeking a visionary, dynamic leader for the unique role of Director of Equestrian. Set in the heart of the Waikato on our world-class campus, this dual-purpose position transitions our renowned Equestrian Centre into an integrated commercial and educational hybrid model.
Bridging classroom pedagogy with elite operational management, you will lead the sport within the core school curriculum, oversee pastoral care for riding students, and drive the operational and financial sustainability of our premier facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Pedagogical & Teaching Leadership (0.5 FTE)

Deliver a 0.5 FTE teaching load across Years 7–13, including leading "Sport in the Timetable" (STP) equestrian modules and your subject area expertise.

Responsible for reviewing tiered rider pathway (beginner to elite) aligned with national equestrian standards.

Manage formal academic tracking, report writing, and curriculum assessments.
Pastoral Care, Safety & Welfare

Provide high-level pastoral oversight.

Act as the site PCBU representative, ensuring strict adherence to equine health, safety, and child protection standards.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
-
Registered Teacher with a current New Zealand Practicing Certificate.

Full New Zealand Driver’s License and valid NZ work rights.

Demonstrated teaching experience.

Proven experience and ability within an equestrian context.
Preferred & Technical Skills

Tertiary qualification in Business, Sports Management, or Equine Studies.

High-level understanding of national equestrian standards, equine welfare best practice, and yard operations.

Exceptional diplomatic and relational skills to manage parents, elite coaches, and external stakeholders.

Ability to seamlessly pivot between classroom instruction and outdoor arena operations.

Active support for Te Reo Māori and Tikanga, embodying the core values of St. Peter’s School.
