This is a Permanent, Full‑Time vacancy at St Peter & St James Hospice.

Location: St Peter & St James Hospice, BN8 4ED (Occasional travel to our retail shops and warehouse).

Contract Type: Permanent, full‑time.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Salary: £25,513 to £25,927 per annum, full‑time equivalent.

About the role

As our Facilities Assistant, you’ll help ensure our hospice buildings, grounds, and spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming for patients, families, staff, and volunteers.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and minor works
  • Completing routine inspections and addressing basic faults
  • Responding to maintenance requests promptly and effectively
  • Supporting planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities
  • Preparing rooms and spaces for meetings and events
  • Assisting with office moves, furniture setup, and equipment relocation
  • Supporting health & safety compliance across our sites
  • Coordinating with external contractors and suppliers
  • Helping maintain grounds, car parks, and external areas
  • Managing stock of tools, materials, and supplies
  • Supporting waste management and recycling processes

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in building maintenance, facilities, or a similar environment
  • A good understanding of health & safety practices
  • Strong problem‑solving and organisational skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Confidence in carrying out manual handling tasks safely
  • A full UK driving licence

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Experience in healthcare or hospice settings
  • Knowledge of compliance areas (e.g. fire safety, water hygiene)
