As our Finance Assistant, you'll play a vital role in supporting the Finance Team, ensuring financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. Your work will help provide the financial information needed to support decision-making across the hospice while ensuring suppliers are paid on time and income is received and recorded correctly. Job Details

Location: St Peter & St James Hospice, North Common Road, North Chailey, BN8 4ED
Salary: £24,633 - £27,142 pro rata (£30,791 - £33,928 full-time equivalent)
Hours: 30 hours per week, Monday - Friday (4 days a week, possibility of hybrid working)
Contract: Permanent, Part-time

What you'll be doing

  • Manage the purchase ledger, ensuring supplier invoices are processed accurately and authorised appropriately.
  • Prepare payment runs for approval and upload payments to the bank.
  • Enter sales invoices and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Process incoming payments and allocate receipts correctly.
  • Perform bank, credit card and control account reconciliations.
  • Respond professionally to finance-related queries from colleagues and external organisations.
  • Support the preparation of information required for the year-end audit process.
  • Assist the Finance Manager and Finance Director with ad hoc finance projects and administrative tasks.
  • Help ensure the finance function operates efficiently and meets all statutory and organisational requirements.

What we're looking for

  • Experience in bookkeeping and financial administration.
  • High levels of IT literacy, with excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • The ability to manage a varied workload and prioritise effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new skills, systems and processes.

Desirable

  • AAT qualification or other accountancy qualification.
  • Experience using QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience preparing payroll reports.
