Job Description

Hours of Work: 13.5 hours over a week to meet the needs of the different premises. Hours may vary with notice subject to bookings, so flexibility is an essential requirement – currently Monday to Friday, 7am-9am in the Parish Hall; Mondays 9.15-10.45am at St Paul’s, Hala Centre; and Tuesdays 9.15-11.15 at St Paul’s Church.

Responsible to: Vicar and Churchwardens

Annual Leave: 5.6 weeks per annum (pro-rata)

Salary: £12.60 per hour – the Real Living Wage

The Vicar and Churchwardens, on behalf of the PCC of Scotforth St Paul’s Lancaster, have agreed the job description for the role of part-time Parish Hall Cleaner. The duties will include:

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning, including sweeping, vacuum cleaning, mopping of floors, polishing and dusting of surfaces and fixtures and fittings, cleaning of toilets, ensuring all areas are litter free (internal and external) and that all drains and gullies are free flowing and clean.
  • In the absence of the Hall Keyholder, additional duties to include emptying litter bins, replenishment of paper towels, toilet rolls and other disposables.
  • Notify Parish Business Manager or Church Wardens of any damage to buildings and equipment or anything seen that may be dangerous to all users, e.g. light bulb replacements, blocked toilets, etc.
  • Ensure that all cleaning equipment is in a safe, working and clean condition and arrange with the Parish Business Manager for repair as appropriate.
  • Inform Parish Business Manager when there is low stock of cleaning materials and other consumables, providing full order details according to the monthly schedule, and ensuring deliveries are stored correctly in line with COSHH.
  • Additional cleaning for one-off occasions (special lets) may be required.
  • Undertake training as appropriate, and undertake a deep-clean regime during quiet periods.
  • Any other duties as may be required at the request of the Clergy or Churchwardens.

Qualifications

NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Cleaning and Support preferred or experience of working in a public building; training to this level will be provided to the right candidate.

Line Management

The Parish Business Manager will be the post holder’s immediate line manager, with the Vicar and/or Churchwardens in overall management of the premises. The post holder will meet with them regularly and liaise with other church officials as part of the role.
