The Head Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and professional operation of the swimming pool and wet leisure facilities. This role involves supervising and supporting the lifeguard team, maintaining high standards of pool water quality and hygiene, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation, managing the daily lifeguard rota, and reporting directly to the Health Club Manager on all operational, staffing, and maintenance matters. The Head Lifeguard reports directly to the Health Club Manager and is responsible for maintaining open, accurate, and consistent communication regarding all aspects of pool operations.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and support the lifeguard team in all daily operations.
- Conduct regular staff briefings and handovers with clear communication of daily objectives.
- Organise ongoing staff training, including emergency response drills, with FAST.
- Maintain active poolside supervision and respond effectively to any emergency situations.
- Enforce pool rules consistently and courteously, ensuring member and guest safety.
- Carry out daily pre-opening safety checks on the pool, poolside, changing areas, and safety equipment.
- Record, monitor and log all chemical readings, pool temperatures, and safety check results.
- Assist in risk assessments and pool safety audits.
- Review staff performance, certifications, and training needs.
- Operate and maintain all pool plant equipment safely and efficiently.
- Create and maintain the weekly lifeguard rota to ensure appropriate coverage during all operating hours.
- Attend regular meetings with the Health Club Manager to discuss operations, safety, and staff performance.
- Escalate urgent maintenance or safety issues promptly with detailed supporting information.
- Support the Health Club Manager in implementing safety initiatives, audits, and compliance updates.
