The role of Library Learning Developer (International) sits within the Learning Development team, collaborating with academic and other professional services staff to design and deliver inclusive and innovative learning and assessment activities. These activities are embedded within the curriculum to engage students in developing academic literacy and English, ensuring integrity and confidence in their academic practice while optimizing learning differences.

The Library Learning Developers (International) will be integrated into College-facing teams but will receive guidance from the Learning Development Manager (International) on best practices for teaching international students. We are seeking to appoint two Library Learning Developers (International): one full-time with a specific focus on the College of Business and Law; the other 0.5 FTE with a specific focus on the College of Health, Science and Society. They will support international students pre-arrival, focus on skill development in programs with a majority of international students, and assist individuals who may be struggling on their programme.

The role-holders will establish scaffolded co-curricular, small group, short course, and one-to-one support to help students consolidate their skills, fill gaps, and improve their chances of achieving successful program outcomes. Additionally, they will develop and promote reading lists and other resources to engage students with diverse and inclusive materials, encouraging reading and inquiry within and beyond their subject discipline.

The role holder will be supported to develop relevant English for Academic Purposes skills and stay updated on sector developments. They will actively participate in university meetings, such as international community of practice forums, program/cluster meetings, and project groups. Collaboration with team colleagues, attending professional development events, and engaging in peer support schemes will be essential to maintain high-quality professional practice.

About You

We are looking for dedicated professionals with expertise in learning development, academic literacy, English language, and cultural awareness. The ideal candidates will have experience in designing and delivering teaching programs for international students and working collaboratively on academic literacy projects within the curriculum. You will be qualified, or working towards a professional qualification, in English language teaching or English for academic purposes.

Key responsibilities include fostering relationships with team members and university colleagues, presenting ideas clearly, maintaining professional confidentiality, and applying problem-solving skills to support student learning. Proficiency in using various devices and systems is essential.

Where is this role based?

There are two vacancies: a full-time role with a specific focus on the College of Business and Law, based at our lively Frenchay campus, where we have invested in the latest facilities and resources to give both our staff and students access to everything they need to succeed; the other half-time role will have a specific focus on the College of Health, Science and Society, and will require some working at our Glenside Campus, which is set within beautiful grounds in Stapleton, just three miles north east of Bristol City Centre, with some time at Frenchay.

Interviews are scheduled to take place at our Frenchay during week beginning 23rd June 2025. The full-time role is a permanent post, working 37 hours per week. The part-time role is a permanent post, working 18.5 hours per week. This post is not available on a job share basis. UWE Bristol is a campus-based University and it is vital to our success and the delivery of an outstanding experience for our students that our campuses are dynamic and vibrant places to learn and spend time. This role is therefore campus based for at least 75 percent of your time, with the opportunity to work from home when there are no on-campus commitments.
