St Matthew’s CofE (Aided) Infant School is looking to appoint a passionate, talented EYFS teacher to join our team to cover maternity leave. St Matthew’s is an outstanding one-form entry, semi-rural infant school set in Downside village, Cobham. It is a well-loved and respected school that has been part of the local community for over 150 years. It is both friendly and nurturing, alongside maintaining high expectations for pupils to achieve well throughout their 3-year journey with us.

As well as our focus on progress and attainment academically, we help children to develop a growth mind-set and a love of learning through our broad, creative curriculum and imaginative learning environment. Positive learning behaviour and PSHE are a strength of the school within this close-knit, caring community of learners.

The EYFS teacher will work within our team to provide the very best inclusive education, enabling children to reach their own full potential, with confidence in their own abilities, ready for transition to KS1. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic person who would work well as part of our team which works collaboratively towards our vision and values where children and inclusion are at the centre.

Recently, Ofsted commented that pupils behave exceptionally well, demonstrate tolerance and fairness and understand the concepts of democracy and respect. They noted that our school is outward looking and staff value working with and learning from others and are overwhelmingly proud to work at the school. As a small school, we think big about learning opportunities, so if you are looking for your next challenge and feel you are the right person for the role, we are looking forward to hearing from you.

Visits to the school are welcome and to arrange a visit, please contact Katharine Hutt, headteacher. St Matthew’s is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to satisfactory references and enhanced DBS clearance as well as proof of right to work in the UK (required at the time of interview). The school will endeavour to make any necessary adjustments to the job and the working environment to enable access to employment opportunities for disabled job applicants or continued employment for any employee who develops a disabling condition.

  • Carry forwards our excellent continuous provision
  • Prioritise early reading and writing
  • Encourage independence and make learning exciting
  • Be forward-thinking, creative and passionate about early learning
  • Be a collaborative team member

What we can offer:

  • A collaborative and supportive team of staff and governors
  • A vibrant, creative place to work
  • Pupils who are keen, curious and enthusiastic to learn
  • An inclusive, nurturing ethos and culture
  • A beautiful local environment
