18 hours per week (0.5FTE), permanent

Primarily working closely with St Mary's Online Programme teams, the Student Liaison Officer (SLO) is responsible for delivering enhanced pastoral care, ensuring engagement and retention amongst students from diverse and non-traditional educational backgrounds. This could include mature students, international students, returning to study students, and those who may not have had a positive academic experience previously. The SLO will foster strong relationships with key University stakeholders including Student Services, Registry, wider university resources and primarily, the online academic and support teams.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver a positive and supportive student experience throughout their University journey.
  • Deliver enhanced pastoral care and ensure engagement and retention among students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Foster strong relationships with key University stakeholders including Student Services, Registry, university resources and online academic and support teams.
  • Flag students who the SLO believes should be considered ‘at risk’ of premature withdrawal or academic failure in accordance with the University’s Students at Risk procedure.
  • Report to the Head of Online Learning and work with relevant Subject Leads Online and other pastoral support staff to design and implement an approach that embeds impact analysis into the student learning support team’s work.

Qualifications & Eligibility

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. St Mary’s University holds a work visa sponsorship licence but is not always able to guarantee a Skilled Worker Visa sponsorship; applicants should meet the requirements of the Points Based System before applying.
