The Playgroup Practitioner will work as part of a team with the Playgroup Manager and Deputy Manager to run the day-to-day activities of the Playgroup setting. They will provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children aged 2-4 years with different levels of need. You will be required to work as part of a team and use your own initiative to provide a safe and enabling environment in which all children can play, develop and learn. The practitioner will promote learning and development of children both inside and outside and are expected to offer these experiences in all weathers and in all seasons, seeing nature as an opportunity for learning. The Practitioner role will promote the aims and objectives of the Playgroup and develop strong relationships with parents/carers to ensure the needs of every child are met.

Responsibilities:

  • Work as part of a team with the Playgroup Manager and Deputy Manager to run day-to-day activities.
  • Provide a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for children aged 2-4 years with varying levels of need.
  • Create a safe and enabling environment in which all children can play, develop and learn, using initiative as part of the team.
  • Promote learning and development inside and outside the setting, offering experiences in all weathers and seasons.
  • Promote the aims and objectives of the Playgroup and develop strong relationships with parents/carers to meet each child’s needs.
  • As a key person, assess children’s development, provide next steps for learning, and track progress across the Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Hold meetings with parents to discuss children’s development and report concerns to the setting SENDCo and/or manager.
  • Model British values and positive behaviours such as kindness, respect, listening, and engagement with children’s activities.
  • Maintain clear records (e.g., accident & incident reports, Learning Journals) with a good standard of written English.
  • Keep knowledge and skills up to date, particularly with regard to safeguarding and undertaking relevant training as necessary.
  • Be available to work between 8:30am and 4:00pm.
  • Ensure an enhanced DBS check is in place with satisfactory references before starting, and subscribe to the DBS update service for the duration of employment.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good level of English to maintain accurate records and communications.
  • Enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references required prior to employment; DBS update service ongoing during employment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and use initiative to support children’s development.
  • Availability to work 8:30am–4:00pm.
