We are looking for an enthusiastic capable doctor to join our fantastic respiratory team at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, at a Foundation Year 2 (FY2) or Internal Medicine Training year 1 or 2 (IMT1/2) level. It will suit a doctor with at least one year’s experience working clinically and previous experience of working in the NHS as a doctor. Respiratory experience is not essential and will be gained during the post. This role will be based day-to-day on the Respiratory and Acute Medicine wards at St Mary’s Hospital.

The applicant will be well-supported by our knowledgeable and approachable consultant team at all times. This is a great training opportunity and a chance to be part of a fantastic team.

Main duties of the job

As part of the respiratory team, the post holder (along with the registrars, other SHOs and FY1s) will be responsible for the ward-based care of 33 patients on Manvers ward, including an 8-bedded acute respiratory unit. They will also periodically work on the Acute Medicine ward, looking after recently admitted patients. The post holder will not be on the on call rota or work outside of normal hours, although they may be able to clerk new admissions in hours.

There will be opportunities in this post to build on the skills and experiences developed earlier in their career and to lead independent ward rounds, independently assess unwell patients, and be supported in the transition to more senior medical roles. This is an academic respiratory unit and the post holder will be expected to take an active role in education and research. This will involve teaching junior medical staff and medical students, and completing one audit or research project. They will have opportunities to present at the weekly departmental educational meeting. The post holder will be expected to attend the structured teaching programmes provided by the department and regular SHO teaching (FY2 or IMT1/2 as appropriate).
