An opportunity has arisen to join our team at The Wharfside Clinic (HIV Outpatients), based at St Mary’s Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 nurse who is keen to advance their nursing career by joining The Wharfside Clinic. This full‑time role offers the opportunity to develop your skills in HIV care as an independent practitioner within our proactive multidisciplinary team. If you are looking to progress your career in this specialist area of nursing, our comprehensive in‑house training and development programme will equip you with the expertise you need in HIV and Sexual Health. Based at St Mary’s Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust provides high‑quality HIV care to over 3,200 patients and is home to one of the largest and most innovative units of its kind in the UK.
Nurses play a vital role in delivering care within our HIV outpatient day ward, and this role continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of our patients. You will also have the opportunity to develop skills in Sexual Health, HIV testing, and work closely with our Advanced Nurse Practitioner team on a rotational basis.
Main duties of the job:- Carry out planned care for a group of patients without direct supervision
- Ensure the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence based, individualised patient care
- Assist and advise staff, both registered and unregistered in the delivery of patient care
- Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly
- Undertake nursing procedures including STI screens and smears
- Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Trust policy
- Monitor patients progress, work towards safe and timely discharge plans and ensure barriers to discharge are identified and acted on appropriately
- Act as the patient’s advocate
- To work under direct supervision of an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (until competent) to assess stable patients and patients switching or starting therapy
- To work under supervision (until competent) to undertake telephone triage in our Emergency Clinic. Refer patients to appropriate specialists.
- Be aware of own scope of professional practice and liaise / refer to Dr or Specialist Nurses as appropriate.
