The aim of this role is for you to provide a high-quality, reliable, and truly impactful administrative and legal support service to our dynamic Legal Department. As a key member of the team, you will play an essential part in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and professional day-to-day running of our legal function. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to become deeply involved in the operational heart of our legal service supporting complex administrative processes, helping coordinate vital legal activities, and assisting colleagues across the department with the organised, timely, and effective management of claims, inquests, and other important casework.

Main duties of the job:
- You will work within the Legal Services Department and report to the Claims and Inquest Manager.
- You will provide comprehensive administrative support to the Legal Services Department, including the Head of Quality Compliance and Assurance, the Trust Solicitor and the wider Legal Services Department team.
- This includes maintaining databases of ex-gratia, clinical negligence, inquests and Court of Protection cases using DATIX, as well as collating documents for investigations and preparing court bundles.
- You will provide high-quality support to the Head of Quality Compliance and Assurance, the Trust Solicitor and the Legal Services Department team, ensuring the effective handling of clinical negligence and personal injury claims.
- This includes ensuring the Trust’s interests are protected and that claims are managed efficiently and effectively in compliance with Pre-Action Protocols.
- You will be responsible for the day-to-day handling of all ex-gratia claims, managing your own caseload of personal injury claims, and assisting with personal injury and clinical negligence claims.
- You will also support the coordination of the Trust’s involvement and attendance at Coroner’s Inquests, including coordinating pre-inquest meetings and liaising with the Coroner’s Court.

Essential criteria:
- Educated to degree level in law or ability to evidence a thorough understanding of the clinical negligence claims process, gained either in an NHS legal department or private practice environment.
- Postgraduate qualification in legal practice or equivalent experience and knowledge in inquest management, including attending Coroners hearings, clinical negligence/personal injury.
Desirable criteria:
- Membership of ILEX or SRA and Law Society.
- Clinical Risk.
