We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Engineering Technician to support the delivery of our engineering curriculum within a secondary school/college setting. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a practical environment and is passionate about supporting young people in developing essential technical skills, confidence, and independence. Working closely with teaching staff, you will play a key role in ensuring that practical lessons run smoothly, safely, and effectively. You will help prepare materials and resources, maintain workshop spaces, and provide hands‑on support to students during lessons. This role is 37 hours per week, term time only plus 5 additional days.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare tools, materials, components, and equipment for practical engineering lessons.
- Support teachers during practical sessions to ensure activities are safe, engaging, and well‑organised.
- Maintain workshop areas, ensuring equipment is in good working order and safely stored.
- Monitor and manage stock levels, including ordering materials in line with departmental budgets.
- Assist with routine maintenance of tools and machinery.
- Provide small group and one-to-one support to students, helping them develop practical skills and understanding.
- Promote and uphold high standards of health and safety at all times.
- Support students’ personal development by encouraging independence, confidence, and resilience.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- Experience in an engineering, workshop, manufacturing, or technical environment.
- Strong practical skills and confidence using a range of tools and equipment.
- Good organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- The ability to build positive working relationships with staff and students.
- A calm, patient, and supportive approach when working with young people.
- A sound understanding of health and safety in a practical learning environment.
- A willingness to contribute positively to the wider life and ethos of the school/college.
