We are looking to recruit a proactive, highly motivated, positive Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our clinical team. The successful candidate will need to be competent in all the usual duties expected of a HCA in General Practice.
Main duties of the job:
- Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
- Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
- Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
- Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
- Carry out BMI checks as directed
- Undertake venepuncture
- Administer vaccinations including Flu, B12, Pneumonia and Shingles
- Carry out ear irrigation
- Carry out ECGs as requested
- Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
- Provide support during minor operations as required including Coil and implant insertions/removals
- Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
- Order stocks as required
- Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
- Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
- Removal of stitches
- Provide tele-dermatology
- Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
Person Specification:
- Clinical Knowledge: Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples, ECGs, Venepuncture, Basic Observations: Height, weight, BP, Pulse, NHS Health Checks, Ability to record accurate clinical notes, Knowledge of EMIS Web
- Qualifications: Completion of the Care Certificate, Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
- Experience: Experience of working in a primary care environment, Experience of working with the general public
