We are looking to recruit a proactive, highly motivated, positive Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our clinical team. The successful candidate will need to be competent in all the usual duties expected of a HCA in General Practice.

Main duties of the job:

  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Undertake venepuncture
  • Administer vaccinations including Flu, B12, Pneumonia and Shingles
  • Carry out ear irrigation
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations as required including Coil and implant insertions/removals
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Order stocks as required
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
  • Removal of stitches
  • Provide tele-dermatology
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate

Person Specification:

  • Clinical Knowledge: Wound Care / Removal of sutures & staples, ECGs, Venepuncture, Basic Observations: Height, weight, BP, Pulse, NHS Health Checks, Ability to record accurate clinical notes, Knowledge of EMIS Web
  • Qualifications: Completion of the Care Certificate, Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level
  • Experience: Experience of working in a primary care environment, Experience of working with the general public
