GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES – To comply with theTeachers’ Standards, as set out

CURRICULUM

  • Preparing,teaching and evaluating lessons throughout an agreed age and ability rangein accordance with statutory requirements, school aims and objectives, andpolicies and Curriculum Area schemes of work.
  • Usinga range of teaching and learning strategies and resources so thatindividual pupils have access to the curriculum.
  • Contributingto the teaching of cross-curricular themes, skills and dimensions.

PUPILS

  • Beingfamiliar with and supporting all school policies, especially those onbehaviour, discipline, pupil welfare and Health and Safety. Communicating problems of a pastoralnature to the form tutor in the first instance.
  • Ensuringthat pupils use equipment safely.
  • Displayingpupils’ work and maintaining a safe, tidy and stimulating workenvironment.
  • Liaisingwith the Learning Support Co-ordinator and the form tutor over pupils withSpecial Educational Needs and modifying teaching accordingly.
  • Ensuringthat targets outlined in a pupil’s individual educational plan arepursued.
  • Liaisingwith and clarifying the role of any support teacher attached to the class.
  • Promotingthe use of the library and other learning resources.
  • Keepinga record of pupil attendance at, and punctuality to, lessons and reportingany notable absence to the form tutor.
  • Ensuringthat homework is set in line with school policy, recorded on Talaxy, andregularly marked and that record of marks are maintained.
  • Ensuringthat the reward and behaviour systems are used.
  • Settingand maintaining high standards of pupil work in the classroom.

ASSESSMENT

  • Assessingpupils’ work in accordance with statutory requirements and schoolpolicy. Maintaining a record ofpupils’ attainments. UsingAssessments to diagnose pupils’ individual strengths and weaknesses andplanning subsequent teaching accordingly.
  • Writingreports on pupils and attending meetings with parents.
  • Settingand marking internal examinations.
  • Ensuringthat external examination requirements are satisfied.
  • Recommendingindividual pupils for particular examination courses.

SCHOOLDUTIES

  • Undertakingduties before school, at break, and after school on a rota basis.

GENERAL

  • Undertakingreasonable care of the school’s resources and accounting for any resourcesused.
  • Attendingmeetings as directed and assisting in planning and evaluation.
  • Settingcover work when absent if it is at all possible.
  • Liaisingwith a reviewer and more senior staff over career and professionaldevelopment.
  • Reportinganything that could endanger or threaten the health and safety of pupilsor staff to the Head of Learning Area.

FORMTUTOR

  • Offeringcare and support to pupils in all aspects of their school life andpreparing them for adult life, developing a knowledge of each pupil as anindividual, and enabling pupils to play an active role in all aspects ofthe school’s tutorial programme.
  • Completingattendance registers at the beginning of morning and afternoon school.
  • Recordingand monitoring punctuality records and referring persistent lateness tothe Head of Year.
  • Attendingassemblies and accompanying tutor groups to assemblies to ensure theyarrive in an orderly manner.
  • Guidingtutor groups to produce at least one assembly per year.
  • Referringany concerns to the Head of Year and subject staff.
  • Completingthe tutor’s report in accordance with the guidelines on report writing.
  • Checkinguniform and referring any problems to the Head of Year.
  • Preparingform representatives for council meetings and supervising the feedback ofinformation from these meetings.
  • Keepingrecords of pupils’ progress, achievements and responsibilities.
  • Attendingmeetings of Form Tutors as directed.
  • Ensuringform notice boards are updated and ensuring that the form base is tidy atthe end of all tutor periods and registrations.
  • Beingavailable to discuss pupils’ concerns with them.
  • Referringall pertinent information to the Head of Year, particularly when requiredfor reports or references.
  • Encouragingpupils to participate in extra-curricular activities and organising theirparticipation in inter-form activities.
  • Actingas a first point of liaison with parents, in consultation with the Head ofYear.
