Are you an experienced Maintenance Assistant looking for a new and rewarding opportunity? St Margaret’s Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Assistant to join our friendly Estates team at our Taunton Hospice.

Salary: ÂŁ4,818.98 per annum (for 7 hours per week)

Working pattern: Part time, working 9:00am – 4:30pm on Fridays

Contract: Permanent

You’ll be part of a welcoming, community‑minded charity where the patient is at the heart of everything we do. This is a rewarding role for someone who enjoys practical work and wants to make a real difference as part of a supportive team.

What can you expect to be doing? As a Maintenance Assistant, you’ll support the delivery of maintenance and repair services across our hospice site, providing a confidential and customer‑focused service. Your day‑to‑day duties will include:

  • Reactive maintenance, such as:
  • Replacing taps
  • Furniture repairs
  • Unblocking sinks and drains
  • Clearing gutters
  • Adjusting fire doors
  • Re‑decoration tasks
  • Planned maintenance, including:
    • Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)
    • Emergency lighting tests
    • Fire panel testing
    • Cleaning or replacing AHU / air‑conditioning filters
    • Disinfection and flushing of taps and showers
  • Project support, assisting the Maintenance Supervisor with:
    • Enabling works for minor projects
    • Moving furniture
    • Supporting contractor visits
    • Communicating progress with stakeholders

    What will you be good at? You will have:

    • Recent experience and knowledge of daily building maintenance tasks and ongoing repairs.
    • A working knowledge of health and safety regulations, ensuring all areas are safe for patients, staff, and visitors.
