St Margaret’s Hospice Care has a fantastic opportunity for a Deputy Shop Manager to join our team in Chard.

  • Salary: £15,234.44 per annum
  • Contract: Permanent, Part time
  • Working pattern: 22.5 hours per week, to include weekday and weekend working. There will also be a need to work additional hours to cover staff leave as required.

As part of our charity retail team, you’ll play a key role in generating vital income that helps us support nearly 5,000 people across Somerset every year.

What can you expect to be doing?

Joining the team in our Chard Shop, you will play a key supervisory role, supporting the Shop Manager in the day‑to‑day running and operational management of the store.

Your day to day work will involve:

  • Supervising, supporting, and motivating staff and volunteers on shift
  • Delivering warm, friendly, and engaging customer service
  • Helping to train, induct, and develop team members
  • Creating eye‑catching merchandising and beautiful displays to bring the store to life
  • Managing till and cash‑handling procedures
  • Assisting with staff and volunteer rotas
  • Sorting, lifting, and carrying donated goods.

What will you be good at?

You will have:

  • Experience in a supervisory role, ideally within the Retail industry
  • Demonstrable excellent communication skills and the high standards of customer service
  • An understanding and awareness of how to successfully motivate and engage a team, working collectively to provide outstanding customer service and driving sales within your own shop.

This role is a physically demanding position within a busy retail environment which includes the lifting and carrying of donated goods.
