Your Profile: As an Emergency Room (ER) Nurse, you work closely with ER physicians and specialists in a busy, fast-paced environment treating patients who present with acute medical, surgical, or mental health complaints. You are responsible for identifying medical issues, determining severity using the Manchester Triage System, providing immediate support to minimise negative effects, and if necessary, sustaining life. You are an enthusiastic team player with excellent interpersonal skills and willing to actively and positively contribute to the daily operations of our hospital.

Requirements:
- A Registered Nurse diploma/MBO level 4 with a specialization in Emergency Care;
- A minimum of three (3) years’ working experience;
- Knowledge of work processes in the ER;
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) diplomas is necessary for CPR;
- Basic computer skills with a focus on Microsoft Office;
- Patient-centered with excellent communication skills and a high level of integrity;
- Working proficiency in English; knowledge of an additional language is a plus.
Tasks:
- Perform triage on patients entering the ER for acute medical care;
- Start necessary treatment in emergencies awaiting the ER doctor (starting CPR, providing oxygen, etc);
- Carry out technical nursing procedures (reserved procedures) in accordance with professional standards;
- Prepare examination room for patients and ensure all necessary instruments to perform an examination or carry out treatment are available and prepared for use;
- Assist with all activities for determining diagnosis of ER patients (e.g. EKG tests, transporting blood tests to lab, etc);
- Answer questions, guide, and instruct patients and their family to achieve favourable patient outcomes.

In addition, we also offer healthcare services to two million visitors annually. SMMC is constructing the new St. Maarten General Hospital (SMGH) to expand its services to accommodate the increased care demand of the people of St. Maarten, its visitors, and neighbouring islands. The new hospital is planned to be operational in 2026.
