The Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Warehouse & Logistics Manager to lead our stores, stock management and distribution activities. The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient receipt, storage and dispatch of goods, maintaining accurate inventory records and supporting clinical and retail teams with timely supplies. This is a hands-on role requiring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to lead a small team to deliver a high quality service.
Main responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day warehouse operations including goods inwards, storage, stock control, picking, packing and despatch.
- Manage inventory systems and ensure accurate stock records are maintained in line with organisational policy and GDPR where applicable.
- Coordinate deliveries and collections with internal teams, suppliers and external carriers to meet service needs and timescales.
- Lead, train and develop warehouse staff and volunteers, ensuring safe working practices and a positive team culture.
- Implement and maintain stock rotation, quality checks and disposal procedures to minimise waste and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Develop and maintain processes and documentation for warehouse workflows, including reporting on key performance indicators and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Liaise with procurement, retail and clinical teams to forecast demand, manage stock levels and support special projects or events.
- Ensure the warehouse and vehicle fleet are maintained, secure and compliant with relevant legislation and hospice policies.
- Maintain high standards of communication with colleagues, volunteers and external stakeholders, providing clear and timely information.
Person specification
- Proven experience managing warehouse and logistics operations, including stock control and people management.
- Confident user of inventory and Microsoft Office applications, with experience of electronic record systems.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a professional and compassionate approach when liaising with internal teams and external partners.
- Knowledge of health and safety, manual handling and COSHH requirements relevant to warehouse operations.
- Ability to lead, motivate and develop staff and volunteers, promoting a culture of respect and teamwork.
- Flexible approach to working hours to meet operational needs, including occasional early starts or later finishes.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection (GDPR) requirements.
