Join our team as our Individual Giving Manager. St. Luke's Hospice is a local charity providing compassionate care to people whose illnesses are no longer curable. We promote dignity in dying and empower people to make the choices they want, from the moment they are diagnosed. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced fundraising or direct marketing professional, who would like to play an important part in raising vital funds to help St. Luke's Hospice continue caring for local people and families.

Based in the Fundraising and Communication directorate, our Individual Giving Manager will manage implementation of the Hospice’s individual giving strategy and will develop and deliver annual activity plans.

About the role

As a registered charity, we are reliant on the generosity of our local community to enable us to continue caring for local people and their families. We are looking for someone with a creative and analytical approach to plan and deliver a programme of fundraising appeals, products and activities with a particular focus on donations from individuals. As our Individual Giving Manager, you will have an opportunity to develop our existing programme of activities and products. Your work will help us grow the Hospice’s income, increase our supporter base and provide an excellent experience for our supporters.

Main responsibilities

  • Develop annual delivery plans and lead delivery of individual giving fundraising products to achieve budget net income, working across products including: on and offline cash appeals; supporter newsletters; regular giving; gifts in celebration; and incentivised giving.
  • Project manage all elements required to deliver planned activities, including: producing plans, budgets and briefs; liaising with internal teams and external suppliers/agencies; writing and reviewing copy; and proofing artwork.
  • Plan and deliver the Hospice’s flagship in memory appeal, ‘Light up a Life’, including a cash appeal, local remembrance services, public dedication list instalments and a community radio show.
  • Monitor and evaluate income and expenditure, taking corrective action when necessary to reach targets.
  • Plan and prepare thank you and stewardship communications and supporter journeys.
  • Ensure that individual giving income from all channels and sources is coded, batched and thanked in a timely manner and in accordance with relevant legislation and best practice.

About you

  • Experience of individual giving / direct marketing within the not-for-profit sector, or comparable experience within the commercial sector.
  • Experience of using a variety of on- and offline channels to deliver successful marketing campaigns to acquire and develop donors / customers, including direct mail, email and social channels.
  • Experience of managing income and expenditure budgets, including reforecasting, and setting and monitoring performance against KPIs.
  • Experience of audience segmentation and use of data analysis to inform marketing / fundraising activity.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to organise own workload to manage and deliver multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work proactively to identify and solve problems effectively using own initiative.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a collaborative manner.

Please note that this role is based at our Thurrock Hospice (RM14 3EB) and regular attendance at this site is required. Travel between Hospice sites may also be required.
