At St Luke’s Hospice, our people make everything we do possible. We are looking for an exceptional People Services Administrator to join our small, friendly and busy People Services team. This is a varied and important role at the heart of the organisation. You will support the employee and volunteer lifecycle from recruitment and onboarding through to payroll administration, record keeping, compliance checks and general People Services support. You will help keep key processes moving, maintain accurate people data and provide a professional, responsive and helpful service to managers, staff, volunteers and candidates.
About you
We are looking for someone who is not only an excellent administrator, but someone who genuinely enjoys helping people and providing a first-class service. You will be highly organised, efficient and detail-focused, with the ability to work quickly and accurately in a busy environment. You will be confident communicating with people at all levels, comfortable managing a varied workload and able to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism. This role would suit someone who is approachable, conscientious and proactive, with a positive “can do” attitude. You will enjoy finding solutions, improving processes, using systems effectively and supporting colleagues across the organisation.
What you’ll be doing
- Support recruitment administration, onboarding and new starter processes
- Communicate professionally with candidates, managers, staff and volunteers
- Prepare letters, contracts and employment documentation
- Maintain accurate employee and volunteer records
- Support payroll, benefits and contractual administration
- Carry out and monitor recruitment compliance checks, including right to work, references, DBS checks where applicable and professional registration checks
- Support absence recording, reporting and routine People Services queries
- Help improve systems, processes and the overall employee and volunteer experience
What we’re looking for
- Excellent administration skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
- A professional, friendly and customer-focused approach
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Teams
- Confidence using databases or digital systems
- The ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
- A positive, flexible and supportive approach to working as part of a team
Experience in HR, recruitment, payroll, charity, healthcare or volunteer administration would be helpful, but what matters most is that you are accurate, organised, proactive and committed to providing an excellent service.
Why join us?
You will be joining a supportive, values-led organisation where the quality of our people processes makes a real difference to the experience of our staff and volunteers. At St Luke’s, we are guided by our values of Compassion, Respect, Integrity and Professionalism, and we are committed to creating a workplace where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
