St. Leonard’s Primary School is offering the opportunity for a highly motivated, hard-working and enthusiastic caretaker to join our team. St. Leonard’s Primary School is a popular, growing school that currently has over 240 children on roll and a Governor run Nursery. The post will provide the successful candidate an opportunity to be part of our growth story in the next chapter of St Leonard’s journey and development. We are looking for a caretaker to join our team, to ensure the upkeep of our school environment.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have experience of school caretaking, or a similar and relevant role.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Be able to understand and apply regulations around Health and Safety, including carrying out and recording compliance checks.
  • Be friendly and approachable, flexible, resilient and hard-working.
  • Be prepared to participate in all aspects of St. Leonard’s school life.

Typical responsibilities would include:

  • Unlocking the school site at approximately 7.00am
  • Locking and securing the school site at approximately 6.00–6.30pm
  • Carrying out statutory fire and water safety checks
  • General maintenance and repairs around the school site
  • Monitoring the condition, cleanliness and safety of the premises
  • Liaising with contractors where required

The working pattern would typically involve approximately 4 hours per day, split across morning and evening duties with 4 weeks of work carried out during school holidays.
