We are looking for volunteers with a passion for books, music and film to join our eCommerce team. If you enjoy identifying interesting titles, spotting valuable editions, and researching collectable media, this could be the perfect role for you.
Our eCommerce department raises vital funds through the sale of donated items online. We receive hundreds of books, vinyl records, CDs and DVDs every year, ranging from modern releases to rare first editions, collectable records, box sets and out-of-print titles. Your knowledge and enthusiasm will help us identify items of value and maximise income for St Leonard's Hospice.
When am I needed?
The eCommerce office is located at our Clifton Moor centre and is open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:00pm. We are looking for volunteers on Monday, Tuesday or Friday.
Typical shifts are:
- Morning: 9:30am to 12:00pm
- Afternoon: 1:00pm to 4:00pm
Alternative shift patterns can be accommodated provided they are at least two hours long. Weekly or fortnightly commitments are preferred.
What will I be doing?
- Sorting and assessing donated books, vinyl records, CDs and DVDs
- Identifying collectable, rare or valuable items
- Researching titles, editions, artists, authors and release information
- Helping determine appropriate pricing for online sale
- Photographing media listings
- Writing accurate and engaging descriptions for eBay and other online platforms
- Advising the eCommerce team on specialist media items
- Learning more about the online resale market where appropriate
What skills and qualities will I need?
- Knowledge of books, vinyl records, CDs, DVDs or collectable media
- An interest in researching and identifying items
- Good attention to detail
- Basic IT skills
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
- Reliability and willingness to learn
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion
Previous experience selling items online is helpful but not essential.

Support and Training
You will receive full training and support from the eCommerce team. The Volunteer Services Team will assist you throughout your volunteering journey and be available to answer any questions.
Training
Volunteers are required to complete mandatory training modules which are usually delivered via our online platform. Additional, booster and refresher training may be delivered as needed via e-learning, video links or face to face. You may also be invited to attend role specific in person meetings where appropriate.
