The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) in a fertility and IVF unit works as part of a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, compassionate care to individuals and couples undergoing fertility investigations and treatments. The HCA supports registered nurses and clinicians, ensuring patient comfort, safety, and dignity throughout their journey.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with patient care before, during, and after fertility procedures, including egg collection, embryo transfer, and intrauterine insemination (IUI).
- Perform phlebotomy, cannulation, and basic physiological measurements (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, height, weight).
- Chaperone patients during ultrasound scans and clinical procedures.
- Prepare and maintain clinical areas and equipment, ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Support in theatre and recovery, including assisting with preparation, monitoring, and post-operative care.
- Collect, label, and dispatch laboratory samples in line with protocols.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with data entry.
- Provide empathetic communication and emotional support to patients throughout their treatment.
Skills & Requirements
