We are looking to appoint an excellent Cover Supervisor to join our supportive team. Working under the guidance of subject leaders, you will supervise classes during the short‑term absence of teaching staff, ensuring that students remain on task and engaged in their learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supporting Heads of Department or SLT with the development of resources when not covering
  • Contributing ideas to improve learning and engagement
  • Providing break and lunchtime supervision as required
  • Participating in an induction programme covering school policies, behaviour procedures, and observation of excellent classroom practice

Qualifications and Requirements
  • Has a positive, flexible attitude and remains calm under pressure
  • Demonstrates energy, enthusiasm, and confidence in managing student behaviour
  • Has strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Holds GCSE Maths and English (grade C/4 or above)
  • Enjoys working with young people and building positive relationships
  • Can work flexibly and adapt to a variety of classroom situations; previous experience of working in a school setting would be an advantage, but is not essential

St Joseph's has been serving the local community for over 90 years and was one of the founding schools of the growing Mater Christi Multi Academy Trust. The Mater Christi MAT is a family of primary and secondary schools living and learning together for the common good of our children, families and communities. St Joseph's is ideally located for easy access to the Lake District and everything the National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site has to offer. It is also within easy commuting distance from the popular market town of Cockermouth.

Working Hours

Hours: 5 days per week, Monday to Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm term time (38 weeks per year) plus INSET training days (1 week). We would also happily consider applicants who would like a part‑time role.
