Overview

We are looking for a Senior Healthcare Assistant who is compassionate and driven to make a difference to patients and their loved ones at a difficult time in their lives. This is a truly unique role.

The Hospice night‑sitting service provides support and peace of mind through the night for patients and their carers within the patient’s own home across a wide catchment area.

Judith is one of our night sitters. She says: “To be invited into someone’s home is a position of trust, which I take very seriously. When I look at a patient, I see the person within… It’s also about reassuring a family carer and helping them get what they need to care for a loved one at home.” You can read more about Judith here.

Key role information

  • Hours: 9:45 pm – 6:45 am (9 hours) with 15 minutes travel time and 15 minutes reading time to be completed before arriving at the patient’s home. This is a waking night sit service.
  • Coverage: The Hospice at Home team serves all of North Lancashire, South Lakeland, Cumbria, and parts of North Yorkshire.
  • Requirements: Hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle during working hours.
  • Expenses: Entitled to claim out‑of‑pocket expenses (mileage and parking) in accordance with our policy.

This role is for 23.75 hours per week, working five nights over a fortnightly rota.
