We are seeking a dynamic, innovative and enthusiastic Teacher of Welsh with Head of Department responsibilities to join us on a fixed-term basis from January 2027 to cover a period of maternity leave.
The successful candidate will join a thriving department within a strong and stable Languages Faculty, with the opportunity to inspire pupils across the key stages, develop their Welsh language skills and help maintain the department's excellent academic standards and results.
The role will include responsibility for the teaching of GCSE and A Level Core Welsh (Cymraeg Craidd), the newly rebranded Welsh Second Language qualifications, along with the current A Level Welsh Second Language specification. As the current Head of Department teaches the R16 (Year 11) and A Level classes, we are particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience of preparing pupils for both GCSE and A Level examinations. The successful candidate will also need to be able to prepare pupils for, and deliver lessons towards, the new Level 2 Additional Core Welsh qualification, being offered by WJEC for the first time this academic year, also for the WJEC GCSE Core Cymraeg Unit 2 Non-Examination Assessment (NEA) which takes place from 23rd to 26th February 2027.
Alongside their teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will provide effective leadership and management of the department throughout the maternity cover, ensuring continuity in the delivery of the curriculum and the smooth running of departmental activities.
The Welsh team comprises a full-time Head of Department and two colleagues who support Welsh teaching across R12-R15 (Years 7-10), alongside their main roles in other subject faculties. The successful candidate will also be responsible for overseeing Welsh provision across the Nursery and Infant Departments, through to R11 (Year 6). Together, the team is committed to helping every pupil achieve their full potential, ensuring they are well prepared for internal and external examinations, further and higher education, and the world of work.
