- KEY PURPOSE
The purpose of this role is to support the education, development, and welfare of children across the school, working collaboratively with teaching staff to create a safe, inclusive, and inspiring learning environment.
The Teaching Assistant contributes to the delivery of high-quality education in line with school policies and the Christian ethos of St John’s C of E Academy.
This role also supports the wider mission of the Multi Academy Trust by promoting educational excellence and helping to nurture the distinctive Christian character of the school community, enabling every child to realise their God-given potential and shine.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
You will be expected to
- Support the class teacher in planning, delivering, and evaluating engaging and inclusive learning activities, both in whole-class settings and with individuals or small groups.
- Assist in the preparation and organisation of classroom resources and learning materials, including the use of ICT to enhance pupil engagement and independence.
- Promote a positive, safe, and stimulating learning environment that encourages pupil interaction, cooperation, and inclusion.
- Contribute to the personal, social, emotional, and academic development of pupils, including those with SEND, by implementing support strategies and behaviour plans.
- Observe, monitor, and record pupil progress, providing feedback to teaching staff and contributing to assessment and review processes.
- Provide care and support for pupils’ emotional wellbeing, communication skills, and social interactions, fostering a nurturing and respectful atmosphere.
- Support the implementation of intervention strategies and behaviour management techniques, including those requiring specific training (e. g. Team Teach).
- Assist with personal care and hygiene needs as outlined in individual pupil plans, and provide first aid support where required.
- Undertake routine and non-routine administrative tasks to support the smooth running of the classroom and school.
- Liaise with parents/carers, specialist staff, and external professionals, sharing relevant information as appropriate.
- Uphold and comply with school policies and procedures, including safeguarding, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and CPD opportunities, and contribute to the wider life and ethos of the school and Multi Academy Trust.
- Provide lunch time support either in the dining hall or outside depending on the needs of the day.
