St Johns Hospice provides care to patients and their families from both NWL and NCL ICBs. We currently have an opportunity for a FY3 resident doctor wanting to enhance their skills in caring for patients requiring specialist palliative care. In addition to the 17 bedded inpatient unit, we also have a Community Specialist Palliative Care Team, a Hospice at Home Team, a Wellbeing Centre and a Lymphoedema Service. Working across all departments we also have our social work and bereavement team and our hospice therapies team. In addition we provide a number of complementary therapies which are available for both the patient and those important to them. If you want to provide the best in holistic care and learn palliative care skills that can be transferred to any setting this could be the job for you.
You will work closely with our Palliative Care Consultants, Specialty Doctors and wider clinical teams to deliver high‑quality medical care to patients with life‑limiting illnesses. Our hospice is built on values of compassion, community, charity and commitment, and we pride ourselves on caring for the physical, psychosocial, spiritual and emotional needs of every individual. Located in leafy St John’s Wood on the Jubilee line, minutes from Central London, our independent private Hospital has just been rated the number one in the country for care in the latest Bupa survey. Uniquely, all profits fund our onsite Hospice, St John’s.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Supporting admissions, ward rounds, clinical meetings and MDT discussions
- Providing holistic palliative care, addressing physical, psychological, social and spiritual needs
- Maintaining accurate contemporaneous records in SystmOne
- Completing medical examiner referrals, coroner referrals and MCCDs (with consultant support)
- Assessing patients in day services, outpatients and community settings
- Liaising with primary and secondary care teams to ensure continuity of care
- Contributing to teaching, clinical governance, audit and research
- Engaging in ongoing CPD and annual appraisal
What We’re Looking For
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
- MBBS or equivalent
- Broad medical experience, ideally with some exposure to palliative care
- Strong communication skills with patients, families and colleagues
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team
- Good IT skills and experience with clinical audit
- Awareness of own limitations and willingness to seek support
- Specific interest in Palliative Medicine
- Experience leading audit or quality improvement projects
