The role:

This role will be fulfilled by an experienced and autonomous technical policy specialist with strong advocacy capabilities. The role holder will possess a solid technical understanding of financial services policy and regulation, particularly in asset management, investing, tax, pensions, insurance, and investment product regulation.

The role will support the Director of Public Policy in advocating effectively on reactive policy issues across various technical areas, representing SJP’s views and ensuring our voice is heard externally with policymakers and industry stakeholders.

What you\'ll be doing:

  • Develop and lead SJP advocacy positions on key policy issues, especially related to asset management, retail investing, tax, pensions, insurance, and investment product regulation.
  • Support company executives, particularly in the Investment Management division, with understanding emerging regulatory risks and developing advocacy strategies.
  • Represent SJP at industry working groups and directly to policymakers, regulators, and government officials.
  • Provide analysis on the impact of regulatory and government policy changes on SJP’s business.
  • Present as a credible subject matter expert on relevant technical issues to senior leaders, partners, and potentially clients.
  • Demonstrate strong UK public policy and regulatory experience within the financial services industry.
  • Understand the UK policymaking process well.
  • Experience from Public Policy teams of Asset Management firms, HM Government/Treasury, FCA, or trade associations is advantageous.
  • Exercise sound judgment on policy and reputational issues.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to influence effectively.
  • Confidently represent SJP externally at industry groups and directly to policymakers and regulators.

Proven advocacy experience in financial services, particularly in areas such as:

  • Asset management
  • Operational resilience
  • Consumer and corporate tax policy
  • Retail investing
  • Insurance
  • Digital and crypto assets and wider alternatives
  • ESG policy
  • Macro-economics and fiscal policy
  • AI policy

The candidate should have a strong understanding of risk assessment and management.
