About the role

Do you have a strong commercial mindset and the ability to build strong positive relationships with stakeholders? We are looking for individuals who can deliver a range of strategic, commercial and business planning advice and guidance. The main purpose of the Business Consultant role is to deliver value-added consulting solutions to SJP’s priority partnerships. Key responsibilities include designing, building and delivering a Consultancy Proposition. The team is made up of Consultants who have expert knowledge who together will be able to help Practices improve their overall business performance and sustainability.

Using a range of knowledge, skills and tools the Business Consultants will support Partners and Practice leadership teams to develop the effectiveness of consulting within businesses with growth potential; they create a sharper focus on the things that matter, optimising the use of SME and Partnership resources to create a plan and generate productivity growth through increased efficiency and continuous improvement. Depending on where you’re based in the North, you’ll either support our partnerships in the North East or North West.

What you will be doing

  • Maintaining positive relationships with partner practices, including business planning and regular reviews aimed at enhancing their businesses and their commercial performance.
  • Designing business improvement solutions and programmes, supporting and consulting to deliver successful well‑run and profitable businesses.
  • Reviewing, measuring, and assessing the efficiency of relationships and tangible return on investment of each Partner relationship.
  • Create, build and deliver a business implementation plan, reflecting a comprehensive and accountable plan for the partner practice to achieve its goals.
  • Working closely with partnerships to ensure that the right resource is available at the right time to support projects.
  • Ensure risk and compliance requirements are met on client outcomes, with regular reviews.
  • Deliver “model office(s)” for priority businesses.

About you

We’re looking for people who have helped businesses transform and achieve positive client outcomes through building long‑term business relationships and influencing decisions through effective coaching.

Essential Criteria

  • Have previous experience of using data and insights to diagnose problems and inform decision making with proven relationship building skills.
  • Be able to listen and adapt your style to be solution‑focussed, a coach, mentor or strategic planner as needed – you’ve operated previously as a true business partner.
  • Experience of building strong relationships with key partners with evidence of influencing and coaching to improve performance and drive efficiencies.
  • Strong commercial acumen and the ability to develop an implementation plan with partner businesses.

Desirable Criteria

  • CMI Level 5 Professional Consultancy (or equivalent) would be an advantage.
  • You’d either be a qualified coach/Consultant or have relevant prior experience.
