The role:

Database Administrators play a critical role in the success of providing our community with a performant, reliable database platform and are called upon to design and support the right solutions for the business needs. Beyond providing high standards of service and general support, they must effectively work in a consultative role for each project to make recommendations on the appropriate solution, to improve performance of the platform and to plan proactively for both internal and user driven changes and growth. The role requires a high degree of self-management, proactivity and positivity with regard to delivering internal objectives, take personal accountability, strong communication and technology acumen. Continual knowledge transfer, training and mentoring of less knowledgeable staff is expected.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Implementation of automated backup, restore and verification process for all critical databases.
  • Ensuring availability and performance of the databases that support the system.
  • Ensure associated hardware resources allocated to the databases and to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
  • To work with all members of Technology Operations, particularly Cloud Ops Engineers, Cyber, Infrastructure Engineers and other areas such as Solution Architects, Application Developers and Project teams to design the infrastructure for applications.
  • Assess and deliver change for projects (internal to Technology Operations and to the wider business) – particularly complex change.
  • To provide guidance and support to other members of the team, enabling their technical development.
  • Recommend and deliver cost savings and cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain the cybersecurity stance of our IT infrastructure.
  • Identify areas for automation and deliver automated functions.
  • Demonstrate at least 3 years of Microsoft practical experience supporting SQL workloads.
  • Experience of developing and managing reports with tools such as SSRS, PowerBI.
  • At least 3 years’ experience of supporting Enterprise infrastructure including networks, firewalls, load balancing and Active Directory.
  • Experience with PowerShell.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts.
  • Managing or working within hybrid-cloud enterprise level configurations.
  • Experience with SQL database security and backup principles and services.
  • Good understanding of database workload monitoring services/products to leverage monitoring and event capabilities to trigger appropriate reactions desired.
  • Understanding of BAU maintenance activity is performed to the standard and timeliness required.
  • Knowledge of other database technologies such as RDS Oracle, MySQL, Redshift etc.
  • Understanding of High-Availability and Disaster recovery based workloads.

The successful candidate will be highly technical, analytical and is comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
