The role:
This person will manage and action the Group's response to data subject access requests in accordance with SJP's statutory obligations pursuant to the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation. This will include supervising team members in the administration, review and delivery of information provided in response to a DSAR.
What you'll be doing:
- Overall management of DSAR requests in accordance with the requirements of the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK General Data Protection Regulation.
- Meet statutory deadlines, proactively anticipating competing deadlines and claiming extensions where appropriate, keeping data subject informed of progress and applicable deadlines.
- Coordinate the collection of relevant personal data from locations across SJP determined by the scope of the data subject's request.
- Ensure information collected is reviewed prior to dispatch to the data subject to enable the redaction of third-party data and application of other relevant exemptions/exceptions.
- Coordinate the dispatch of responses to data subject access requests via a secure online portal to minimize the risk of data loss.
- Manage subsequent queries, including those raised by the Information Commissioner, either handling personally or passing to the relevant department where query relates to the content of the information.
- Escalate issues to Line Manager on a timely basis, including queries on the scope of requests, concerns over statutory deadlines and/or the collection of relevant personal data and the application of exemptions and exceptions, including challenges on the same received from data subjects.
- Manage and supervise team members in the administration, review and delivery of information provided in response to a DSAR to ensure adherence to statutory timeframes.
Who we're looking for:
The ideal candidate will have an overall understanding of the data protection regime and a strong technical understanding of the obligations of a data controller when responding to DSARs and the applicable exemptions/exceptions. (Technical subject matter knowledge can be developed in the role). They will have a good understanding of where relevant data is stored and an awareness of the importance and possible consequences of the process should it fail in any way. They will be a confident communicator who responds robustly to challenges and can interact effectively with data subjects. They will have excellent project/time management skills and be able to manage team members to ensure a timely and effective response in the administration, review and delivery of information provided.
Essential Criteria
- Previous supervisory/management experience.
- Able to manage/oversee a key SJP business process where it is essential to be highly organised with strong time management skills.
- Strong analytical skills with a good eye for detail – able to assess if technical exemptions and exceptions apply.
- Resilient – able to deal with difficult complaints/data subjects.
