The Service Management and Controls Department is a key function within Technology Operations, responsible for ensuring the stability and optimisation of IT services across the organisation. The department oversees the full service lifecycle, including Service Design, Transition, and Operations, as well as critical processes such as Incident, Problem, and Change Management, Service Catalogue, Supplier Management, and Business Continuity Planning. Effective incident management and communication are central to its role, enabling rapid resolution and recovery while maintaining stakeholder confidence. The department provides strategic direction for service management processes, driving continuous improvement and ensuring seamless integration of projects into Business-as-Usual. It fosters strong relationships with stakeholders, manages commercial responsibilities as a budget holder, and prioritises the adoption of best practices to deliver reliable, customer-focused IT services that support the organisation’s operational resilience and long‑term success.

The Disaster Recovery Consultant is responsible for supporting the Disaster Recovery Manager in ensuring the organisation’s ability to recover and maintain critical business operations following a disruption. This role supports the Disaster Recovery manager to develop, implement, and manage disaster recovery strategies, plans, and procedures to minimise downtime and protect data integrity.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Continually supporting the testing approach, adapting it to ensure it is fit for purpose for the different services in operation documenting processes and actions.
  • Supporting the Disaster Recovery Manager with collating information for questions from regulators and further evolution of testing scenarios.
  • Supporting the administration of risk assessments and business impact analyses to identify critical systems and dependencies, reporting back to the DR Manager.
  • Coordinating IT and business units to support the DR Manager ensuring recovery strategies align with organisational objectives.
  • Supporting the DR manager to plan and execute regular disaster recovery tests and simulations with administrative duties.
  • Maintaining documentation and ensure compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
  • Supporting the DR Manager to document emerging risks and technologies to enhance recovery capabilities.
  • Organising training and awareness programmes for staff and act in a supporting role in incidents.
  • Working with the DR manager and AWS Technical Resiliency manager to ensure that technical capability is documented and testing space is included in future plans and testing.
  • Acting as support to the lead coordinator during disaster recovery events.

Who we’re looking for:

  • We’re looking for an experienced Disaster Recovery Consultant who will play a vital role in securing continuity and stability across the organisation’s technology landscape.
  • Practical experience or strong understanding of disaster recovery planning and execution within a complex IT environment.
  • Familiarity with disaster recovery frameworks, methodologies, and best practices (e.g., ISO 22301, NIST).
  • Experience with enterprise-level DR tools and platforms.
  • Good understanding of IT infrastructure, networking, and cloud environments.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to listen, understand and explain complex, highly technical information to non-technical colleagues using clear, simple language.
  • Strong planning skills, adept in risk management, stakeholder engagement, and crisis decision‑making, with an analytical and detail-oriented approach.
  • Professional certifications such as CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional), DRII, or similar.
  • Degree in Information Technology, Business Continuity, or related field (or equivalent experience).
