Role Overview

St James Senior Girls' School is seeking a dedicated SENDCo to promote the welfare, safety, and success of our pupils. Rooted in the school's ethos of care, respect, high expectations, and inclusion, the role ensures every young person feels safe, supported, and can thrive academically and personally. The postholder will deliver targeted, tiered, and coordinated interventions for pupils with a range of needs, including mental health, social, emotional, or behavioural challenges that impact engagement with learning.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to safeguarding concerns.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Liaise with external agencies and professionals.
  • Ensure statutory safeguarding duties are met in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE).
  • Lead SEND across the school.
  • Provide hands‑on pastoral support combined with strategic and statutory safeguarding responsibilities.
  • Listen to and amplify the pupil voice, shaping positive experiences and outcomes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Proactive, resilient professional.
  • Commitment to the school's ethos and ability to work within a team.
  • Understanding of SEND provision and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Experience in coordinating tailored support for pupils with diverse needs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with pupils, families, teaching staff, and external agencies.
