The post aims to develop diabetes and endocrine services within the trust, including outpatient clinics, diabetes foot care, and diabetes maternity care. The role supports the General Medical on-call rota and ward cover with a pattern of ward weeks and non-ward weeks rotating over a 3-4 week cycle.

Main duties include clinical work in diabetes and endocrinology outpatient clinics and involvement in ward-based care for endocrinology and diabetes. The post supports ward-based governance, clinical supervision of trainees, and participation in on-call duties as described in the job plan.

Professional Responsibilities

  • Comply with Trust policies and GMC registration/licensing; participate in a formal CPD programme (Royal College of Physicians Online CPD diary). The Trust supports CPD with time and financial resources.
  • Participate in regular medical audit and annual appraisal/job planning for revalidation with a qualified appraiser.
  • Ensure annual appraisal and revalidation processes are in place in accordance with Royal College of Physicians requirements.

  • Essential: UK-trained consultants: CCT or within 6 months of CCT (including Portfolio Pathway); non-UK-trained applicants must show evidence of NHS equivalence to UK CCT. MBBS or equivalent. MRCP or equivalent.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Essential: Knowledge/experience in Diabetes and Endocrinology; extensive training in the specialty; participation in Clinical Audit/QI; involvement in undergraduate/postgraduate teaching; evidence-based practice; research experience/publications.
  • Desirable: Experience in diabetes foot or maternity services; evidence of service development; higher education teaching qualification; research leadership experience.
