St Helens Borough Council is seeking a motivated Environmental & Consumer Protection Manager to lead and develop our Environmental & Consumer Protection team.
This is a high‑profile role within the Council’s Regulatory Services division, supporting the delivery of essential statutory functions that protect public health, local communities, and the environment.
As the Environmental & Consumer Protection Manager you will provide strategic and operational leadership across a wide range of environmental health and trading standards related areas, including food safety and standards, consumer protection, health & safety, infectious disease control, pest control, animal health, environmental protection, contaminated land and air quality.
Key responsibilities include
- Leading and inspiring managers and teams to deliver high‑quality, customer‑focused services.
- Overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with legislation, policies and governance.
- Driving continuous improvement, innovation and efficiency.
- Managing budgets and resources.
- Managing complex issues and promptly finding deliverable solutions.
- Representing the department at senior meetings, committees and stakeholder forums.
We are looking for a qualified Environmental Health or Trading Standards professional with strong technical knowledge and leadership experience across environmental health and trading standards.
The candidate must be able to motivate and develop teams, manage budgets and performance, handle enforcement activity and complex casework, work under pressure, meet deadlines and adapt to change.
