Ways to Work is the borough's largest employment support programme, delivered by the council and working with all local partners to deliver sustainable employment, education and training outcomes for local residents. It is funded by the Connect To Work and has registered and worked with over 6000 residents since its inception in 2016, helping over 3000 people into employment, training and education.
Our Ways to Work centres in St Helens and Earlestown enable the co-location of council staff with key strategic local partners. Staff from St Helens Borough Council's Ways to Work programme work alongside career coaches from Career Connect and Jobcentre Plus advisers to offer mentoring, coaching, advice and guidance, and job search support.
Responsibilities
- Coach a referred caseload of people, both on a one-to-one basis and within groups, facilitating positive change in education, training or employment outcomes.
- Create a supportive and motivating environment for individuals to explore their needs, motivations, desires and skills, assisting them in making real, lasting change focused on stable employment.
- Apply coaching tools and techniques—including one-to-one training, facilitation, mentoring, counselling and networking—to support young people in meeting their participation and employment goals.
- Manage a dynamic and changing caseload of clients, each with personalised requirements, and support them on individualised pathways to move closer to the labour market.
- Cover both St Helens Town Centre and Earlestown sites, and attend community events as required.
- Be prepared to work in various locations or teams across the Council.
