Overview

St Helens Borough Council is recruiting a Senior Social Worker for the Working Age Adult Social Work Team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of adults aged 18-67 with learning or physical disabilities or severe mental health needs.
  • Conduct investigations under Safeguarding, assessments (including under the Care Act), care planning and reviewing.
  • Provide legal support and collaborate closely with the Council’s Legal Team.
  • Work closely with Merseycare inpatient wards across the region and with the Homelessness Social Work post.
  • Support AMHPs in Mental Health Act assessments; cover the AMHP rota (Monday to Friday up to 8pm). May be required to work beyond normal hours.
  • Attend management support sessions, supervision, appraisals and team meetings, and seek ongoing training and development.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Qualified social worker with relevant experience in adult social work.
  • Fully registered with AMHP or willing to undertake specific AMHP training.
  • Qualified as a BIA or Practice Educator optional.
  • Full driving licence and access to a car.
  • Strong organisational, communication and teamwork skills.
