We are St Helens Borough Council, located in the heart of the Northwest close to Liverpool, Manchester and Lancashire. St Helens Council are seeking to appoint an IT Engineer to provide IT support to primary schools within our borough. The engineer will be working as part of a team and be supported by the Primary Schools Team Manager and senior IT engineers. The engineer will be assigned a number of schools to act as the primary IT engineer, visiting them on a weekly basis, providing reactive support at times and working on project work during school holidays. The role would suit someone with at least a year’s experience in the IT Industry looking to further their career. You will be providing both first‑ and second‑line support to both staff and students.

Responsibilities
  • Provide first‑ and second‑line IT support to primary schools.
  • Act as the primary IT engineer for assigned schools, visiting on a weekly basis.
  • Deliver reactive support as required and manage project work during school holidays.
  • Maintain end‑user devices such as Windows PCs, printers, iPads and audio/visual equipment.
  • Perform basic networking tasks, including cable patching, wireless connectivity, basic IP configuration and troubleshooting.
  • Ensure service desk calls are taken ownership of, organised, and prioritised based on impact.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of one year experience working in an IT support environment.
  • Experience supporting end‑user devices (Windows PCs, printers, iPads, AV equipment).
  • Knowledge of basic networking including cable patching, wireless connectivity and IP configuration.
  • Experience administering users and computers using Microsoft Server 2016‑22, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Intune and Microsoft Configuration Manager is an advantage.
  • Good customer service skills and the ability to liaise effectively with school staff and students.
  • Experience using a service desk system; an ITIL qualification is an advantage but not required.
  • Full DBS check will be carried out on any successful applicant.
Service Coverage Hours

Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 4.30pm. However, the post requires flexibility to cover service demands as and when required between 8:00am and 5:00pm Monday to Friday.

Salary and Working Hours

Salary: £28,598 – £31,022 per annum. Hours: 37 hours per week.
