Engineer - Strategic Highway Maintenance

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join as an Engineer within the Strategic Highways Maintenance Team at St Helens, to help us drive forward and support the delivery of the Council’s ambitious strategy. With a Capital programme exceeding £30m and some of the region’s biggest transport schemes underway, including the regeneration of the Town Centre and Earlestown, the highways service has never had a more integral role to play. To ensure these programmes of work are successfully delivered we are looking to bolster our Highway maintenance Team. We want to complement the experienced technical expertise that we possess with officers who have relevant highways maintenance experience, displaying first class customer service and stakeholder management skills.

As an Engineer – Strategic Highways Maintenance, you will ensure that robust strategic and reactive maintenance principles are applied to the management of the condition of the highway network. You should be experienced in highways maintenance and have the ability to efficiently and effectively deliver Highway Infrastructure & Improvement Projects from planning to implementation, taking a lead role ensuring that they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required standard.

Other requirements of the role include site supervision duties, having knowledge of health and safety procedures and legislation, investigating and resolving customer enquiries, and having experience liaising directly with elected members, resident groups, members of the public, representatives from the emergency services and other public agencies.

Employees can regularly work away from Council workspaces (including home or other locations), alongside required office-based working. The balance between remote and office-based working is determined at service level based on operational need, however, there has been a minimum specification that staff will work at least 2 days from an office-based location.
