Lead the AMHP provision within the Working Age Social Work Team, providing specialist social work support and advice under the Mental Health Act 1983, and exercising professional leadership for the AMHP service.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, supervise and support AMHPs within the Working Age Adult Social Work Team and other service areas.
  • Provide peer supervision, link to Social Work education, deliver training and coordinate student placements in partnership with Manchester University.
  • Attend conferences, training events and local and regional network meetings.
  • Coordinate and manage daily Mental Health Act assessment requests, practice as an AMHP and participate on the rota.
  • Identify service gaps and assist in developing innovative services in collaboration with the Head of Social Work.
  • Record and monitor required AMHP service activity and submit monthly statistics to the Head of Social Work.
  • Cover for the Team Manager when absent and provide ongoing support to other management team members responsible for duty and safeguarding.
  • Provide out‑of‑hours support to part‑time AMHPs and other AHPs working beyond standard hours.

Qualifications

  • Qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.
  • Qualified Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP).
  • Applications from other professionals who hold the AMHP qualification are also welcomed.
