The Environmental Protection Team within the Council’s Communities Department plays a vital role in protecting public health and improving the quality of life across the borough. The service delivers a wide range of regulatory functions, including managing environmental issues, providing technical advice to support decision-making, and ensuring compliance with relevant environmental legislation to safeguard residents, businesses and local communities.
St Helens Borough Council is seeking a motivated Regulatory Services Compliance Officer (Noise Control) to join our Environmental Protection team. This specialist role offers an opportunity to lead noise and vibration investigations across the borough, playing a key part in protecting residents and communities from the impact of noise nuisance. You will work across a wide range of cases, including commercial, industrial and domestic premises, and provide expert technical advice on planning applications, licensing matters and major events.
As the council’s specialist officer for noise control, you will use acoustic monitoring equipment and software to assess noise and vibration levels, provide professional advice to colleagues and stakeholders, contribute to enforcement action, and represent the council at committees, hearings and court proceedings as necessary. We are looking for a qualified environmental protection professional with a strong knowledge of noise control legislation, excellent investigative and communication skills, and the ability to interpret technical information and provide clear, practical and proportionate solutions.
This is an excellent opportunity for a dynamic officer looking to further develop expertise in environmental protection and make a meaningful contribution to achieving positive outcomes for residents, businesses and the wider borough. Employees can regularly work away from council workspaces (including home or other locations) alongside required office-based working. The balance between remote and office-based working is determined at service level based on operational need; however, staff must work at least two days from an office-based location.
