£46‑£49k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement.

Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self‑sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

The Royal St Helena Police comprise of a Chief of Police, a DCI, three Inspectors, five Sergeants including one DS and 19 Constables including three DCs. In addition, the RSHP has one Inspector, one Sergeant and three Constables based on Ascension Island, and it may occasionally be necessary for you to travel there to support those officers.

As the first level of line management in policing, you will ensure effective daily supervision, guidance and support of officers and staff. You will enable the development of competence within your team whilst ensuring that organisational standards are met and objectives achieved. You will co‑ordinate, monitor and respond where necessary, to front line policing activity to uphold the law, enable public safety and build public confidence in policing in line with legal frameworks and policy guidelines. You may also be required to take on an operational role requiring specialist technical knowledge and skills.

You will utilise a range of appropriate supervisory and leadership skills to deliver effective and efficient response, community and investigative policing across St Helena and will have broad experience of working within uniform operational policing. You will also understand current policing challenges, efficiency and diversity issues. You should be under 60 with good physical and mental health and hold a clean driver’s licence in Class A and C.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co‑Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to upskilling the local workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
