Salary: £38k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, plus International Supplement

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially because of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid. There are four schools on the island; one secondary and from January 2025 there will be two primaries. The curriculum broadly models the English education system.

You will lead and develop ICT, Computer Science and Business at St Helena Secondary School, taking responsibility for the day-to-day management of the department. You must plan, prepare and deliver appropriate schemes of work and develop schemes of work for key stage 3, 4 and 5 where applicable. You should provide monitoring, assessment, reporting and feedback to students and parents with high quality CPD for colleagues. Assisting Primary School staff with ICT curriculum development and with staff training in teaching ICT across the schools, you will also contribute to the teaching of ICT & Computing in Adult Education.

Holding a UK teaching qualification and QTS, with degree level qualification in ICT or equivalent, you have a background in teaching ICT and/or Computing at key stages 3, 4 and 5. You have already worked overseas, preferably in a developing economy and have specific experience in literacy improvement at any level. Your knowledge of a range of GCSE and A level courses available for ICT & Computing is supported by knowledge of the Secondary Curriculum within the UK relevant to ICT & Computing. You have experience of providing professional development and training for other staff.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.
