An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced nurse to join the Major Trauma Nurse Practitioner Team in a 0.5 WTE part time role. Having senior experience in ED, ICU or surgical ward nursing will be very beneficial to complement this role.
The post holder will coordinate the major trauma patient pathway from ED through to discharge and oversee the development and implementation of standards and protocols to underpin this. This involves working with multidisciplinary teams across all divisions in the Trust and with colleagues in network trauma units to ensure the best possible care of patients (both adults and children) who have sustained multiple injuries.
Responsibilities- Work alongside the Major Trauma Practitioner team and wider members of the Major Trauma Team as an experienced practitioner delivering an expert nursing service within the Major Trauma Pathway.
- Perform advanced clinical assessments and tertiary surveys of trauma patients to identify and provide management for injuries.
- Effectively manage a caseload of patients and clients.
- Ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and supported by providing clinical and social support.
- Contribute to the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines.
- Act as a senior professional role model at all times, demonstrating strong leadership skills.
- Assist in the delivery of advanced specialist nursing care for patients admitted via the Major Trauma Pathway.
- Provide specialist major trauma nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following admission and through all stages of the patient pathway.
- Perform advanced clinical skills (such as ordering of clinical imaging and independent patient assessment) as necessary.
- Possess non‐medical prescribing ability if qualified.
- Ensure continuity of a high standard of evidence based nursing care, assessing both physical and mental health, health related and nursing needs of patients, their families and other carers, and initiate appropriate steps for effective care.
