Responsibilities include:
- Acting as an effective professional role model, leading, coordinating, supporting and teaching all members of the team.
- Being accountable for the provision of excellent nursing care and working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
- Contributing to the strategic development of the Neuroradiology Service.
- Being recognised as an expert in the field, holding additional specialist knowledge and experience.
- Supporting the Nursing Sister in developing the department.
- Demonstrating specialist advanced clinical skills in all aspects of Neuroradiology nursing.
- Providing clinical support and advice to nursing and medical staff.
- Leading the nursing agenda locally in line with the divisional/trust strategy.
- Monitoring and developing the nursing schedule, particularly in respect to skill mix to provide safe effective staffing levels.
- Ensuring that nursing care is provided to meet complex needs in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team.
- Ensuring that systems are in place to store, check and administer drugs in accordance with Trust and NMC policies.
- Communicating, influencing and working with the multidisciplinary team to promote excellent care and informed clinical decisions.
- Maintaining accurate and timely nursing records, monitoring standards and taking corrective action as appropriate.
- Being proactive in the prevention and management of complaints, responding in accordance with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust complaints and improvements policies.
- Scrubbing and assisting Neuroradiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Assessing suitability for, planning, implementing, evaluating clinical care and admitting patients undergoing Day-Case Angiography.
- Ensuring arrangements for the reception of patients in the Neuroradiology Department.
- Arranging, in consultation with the multidisciplinary team and Ward Manager, transfer of patients and appropriate post-procedural care.
- Communicating and cooperating with other wards and departments, giving accurate information as required.
- Maintaining and monitoring a safe and clean environment within the clinical area in accordance with Trust Health and Safety, Clinical Risk and Infection Control Policies.
- Investigating adverse incidents, observing for themes and ensuring timely action initiated.
- Ensuring learning is shared regarding AI's/Infection control and used to drive future practice and service developments.
- Acting as a Link Nurse for Neuroradiology in liaison with the infection team.
- Ensuring systems are in place to monitor and manage the quality of the clinical environment in relation to infection control.
- Keeping up to date with the elements of the hygiene code and their impact upon the local environment.
- Carrying out departmental hand hygiene/environmental audits in line with the trust rolling programme and providing feedback results and remedial actions as required.
- Ensuring systems are in place to maintain and monitor levels of stock, ensuring adequate supplies and effective resource usage.
- Ensuring systems for correct handling, checking and storage of patient belongings and valuables.
- Taking appropriate action to address unexpected changes and situations, informing the on-call Nurse or Neuroradiologist as necessary.
- Participating in the nursing on-call rota.
- Familiarising with and using any computerized system integral to the running of the service (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RIS).
- Actively contributing to achieving the clinical governance goals of the Service and the Trust Nursing Strategy, completing any audits that may be required.
- Providing clear and consistent leadership to the nursing team in the absence of the Sister, developing and motivating them.
- Working with the departmental Sister on recruitment, selection and retention of nursing and Neuroradiology Support staff.
- Assisting in monitoring department pay and non-pay budgets to ensure the economic use of resources.
- Delegating duties and tasks as appropriate to team members and evaluating the outcomes.
- Offering support and assistance to paediatric staff during Paediatric sessions.
- Coordinating and managing the workload in the Angiogram rooms, ensuring cohesion of the multidisciplinary team.
