Senior Staff Nurse Neuroradiology | St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in London

Responsibilities:

• Act as an effective professional role model, leading, coordinating, supporting and teaching all members of the team.
• Be accountable for the provision of excellent nursing care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
• Contribute to the strategic development of the Neuroradiology Service.
• Be recognised as an expert in the field, holding additional specialist knowledge and experience.
• Support the Nursing Sister in developing the department.
• Demonstrate specialist advanced clinical skills in all aspects of Neuroradiology nursing.
• Provide clinical support and advice to nursing and medical staff.
• Lead the nursing agenda locally in line with the divisional/trust strategy.
• Monitor and develop the nursing schedule, particularly in respect to skill mix to provide safe effective staffing levels.
• In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, ensure that nursing care is provided to meet complex needs.
• Ensure that systems are in place to store, check and administer drugs in accordance with Trust and NMC policies.
• Communicate, influence and work with the multidisciplinary team to promote excellent care and informed clinical decisions.
• Ensure that accurate and timely nursing records are maintained, monitor standards and take corrective action as appropriate.
• Be proactive in the prevention and management of complaints, responding in accordance with St George’s Healthcare NHS Trust complaints and improvements policies and taking the lead in the absence of the Sister.
• Scrub and assist Neuroradiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Assess suitability for, plan, implement, evaluate clinical care and admit patients undergoing Day-Case Angiography.
• Ensure arrangements for the reception of patients in the Neuroradiology Department.
• Arrange, in consultation with the multidisciplinary team and Ward Manager, transfer of patients and appropriate post-procedural care.
• Communicate and co-operate with other wards and departments, giving accurate information as required, particularly with regard to notification of incidents and accidents to staff, patients and visitors.
• Maintain and monitor a safe and clean environment within the clinical area in accordance with Trust Health and Safety, Clinical Risk and Infection Control Policies.
• Investigate adverse incidents, observe for themes and ensure timely action initiated.
• Ensure learning is shared regarding AI's/Infection control and used to drive future practice and service developments.
• Act as a Link Nurse for Neuroradiology in liaison with the infection team (this may be delegated to a member of the Nursing team).
• Ensure systems in place to monitor and manage the quality of the clinical environment in relation to infection control.
• Keep up to date with the elements of the hygiene code and their impact upon the local environment; be proactive in managing this.
• Carry out departmental hand hygiene/environmental audits in line with the trust rolling programme and provide feedback results and remedial actions as required.
• Ensure systems are in place to maintain and monitor levels of stock, ensuring adequate supplies and effective resource usage.
• Ensure systems for correct handling, checking and storage of patient belongings and valuables.
• Take appropriate action to address unexpected changes and situations, informing the on-call Nurse or Neuroradiologist as necessary.
• Participate in the nursing on-call rota.
• Familiarise with and use any computerized system integral to the running of the service (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, RIS).
• Actively contribute to achieving the clinical governance goals of the Service and the Trust Nursing Strategy, completing any audits that may be required.
• Provide clear and consistent leadership to the nursing team in the absence of the Sister, developing and motivating them.
• Work with the departmental Sister on recruitment, selection and retention of nursing and Neuroradiology Support staff.
• Assist in monitoring department pay and non-pay budgets to ensure the economic use of resources.
• Delegate duties and tasks as appropriate to team members and evaluate the outcomes.
• Offer support and assistance to paediatric staff during Paediatric sessions.
• Coordinate and manage the workload in the Angiogram rooms, ensuring cohesion of the multidisciplinary team.
