Position

Locum Consultant Intensivist within Adult Critical Care at St George’s University Hospitals Foundation Trust, London.

Scope of Practice

Clinical work based on the Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU). The post holder will primarily serve as a Consultant Intensivist on the CTICU, with potential contributions to the Critical Care Outreach Service, follow‑up clinic, and a secondary specialty subject to negotiation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership to a multidisciplinary team delivering critical care.
  • Engage in service development, clinical governance, and quality improvement work.
  • Contribute to the education and supervision of students and trainees.
  • Support directorate‑wide research activities.
  • Contribute to the clinical management of the base unit.

Working Pattern

The post holder will be required to participate in the CTICU consultant on‑call rota. There are two parallel rotas: a “1st on” rota covering a seven‑day duty period (Monday to Monday, including weekends), and a “2nd on” rota providing weekday cover including that night duty.

The post holder may also allocate a portion of direct clinical care to the Critical Care Outreach service (7‑day coverage 07:45–19:45) and may be involved with the South Western London Adult Critical Care Transfer Service and the ICU Survivorship Service. Internally, the post holder will liaise with consultant colleagues to provide cover for annual, study and professional leave, requiring flexibility in hours.
